The star has handed over the entirety of his £25,000 Mercury Prize prize money to the MVT, which works to save the UK's independent music venues.

He was presented with the award on 16 October as his new release the album was chosen as the outstanding release of the previous year.

The musician has opted to give the cash to the MVT, in appreciation of the vital role small stages had in his initial steps.

"I would not have achieved what I am doing today if it hadn't been for all the performances I played around the North East, and further afield, when I was starting out," remarked the artist. "These venues are iconic, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – approximately 16 percent of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, top acts such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its initiatives to keep the scene afloat, by including a modest fee to their admission fees, which supports independent venues.

Fender also participated, generating in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to assist 38 local spots across the UK.

The donation assisted spaces that were confronting possible closure due to challenges stemming from water damage, fires and bereavements, as well as permit problems, court cases and sound issues.

Other venues were granted funding support in improving amenities and technical equipment that helped performers and fans.

"The idea that money from performances in big venues helps the local stages, where it begins for musicians like me, is just sensible," Fender has said.

The musician is not the first artist to contribute his award prize money to charitable organizations.

Back when Pulp earned the prize in the mid-90s for their release the album, frontman Jarvis Cocker stated that the act would contribute their cash to the non-profit the charity.

In 2002, artist she divided her prize between multiple good causes, such as the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"I also donated a £1,000 to my local community centre, to their gymnastics class, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they lacked updated gear," Ms Dynamite shared with the media.

In recent years, Ezra Collective donated their winnings to the community center that developed their group, as well as other local music groups.

Additionally the 1994 recipients M People contributed their award to a MS organization after a acquaintance was found to have the disease.

"The victory was sufficient," said singer the singer. "The money was the extra but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the cake. So our success touched another person's life."

In the past week, the trust revealed it had protected several small stages in that region, by placing them under public stewardship.

The Joiners in that area and the second in that location were acquired under the public acquisition program, which is funded by the arts council and enthusiasts who buy "stakes" in the buildings.
