Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The latest chapter concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of heroes who will separate from the main group to embark on their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Planners, and Explorers.

What Defines the Combat Party

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who are drawn to a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might look mismatched, but the actions of the third episode demonstrate why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his debts and fled to a secure base in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and warns that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the party reach places they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Questers and Schemers groups.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which players will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
